I always liked Kang. Granted, "Day Of The Dove" may not be among the best of the original series episodes, but I thought the portrayal of Kang and Mara added some depth to the Klingons. I also liked that although Kang is closer to the style of Klingon we would get in the Next Generation, he still displays an underlying intelligence, cunning and overall commanding presence that I felt was lacking from many of the later series Klingons. You felt his crew was loyal to him, not out of some sense of cultural honor, but because he deserved their respect. Much of this is due to the imposing presence of the actor, Michael Ansara. I felt he was the first Klingon we met that was more than a physical match for Kirk.

Another sad loss.

I loved "Day of the Dove" as a kid, and now that I've embarked on my own Star Trek re-watch and just hit the dreaded third season, it's one of the few episodes in my immediate future that I'm really looking forward to seeing again. Ansara also was awesome as the voice of Mister Freeze in Batman: The Animated Series.
