If, as I've been hearing, J.J. has been green-lighted to Direct Star Wars Episode VII, what does this mean for the future of both franchises? The storytelling styles so far have been different and it has been easy to tell at a glance whether you've walked in on a Star Trek video or a Star Wars video. Will this separation of universes be lost?

I'm not a fan of either J.J. Abrams or his Star Trek movies (every new trailer for Into Darkness makes me want to see it less) so I'm less than thrilled by the news that he's doing the next Star Wars episode. On the other hand, I lost much desire to see any more Star Wars after the prequels so maybe it's not making such a big difference.

What does it mean for Star Trek? I'm not sure. I think it really depends on how successful the movie turns out to be, and whether or not Into Darkness does well. I think there'll still be a separation of universes to some degree, but I wonder if both franchises will kind of look the same from a special effects perspective.
