I just had to share the news on this computer game that allows you to build a bridge simulator at home:

Doesn't that look amazing? It comes closer to replicating Star Trek than any other game I've seen, where you usually have to let AIs control all the systems or you have to manage them yourselves. That navigator who can't quite aim the ship properly? That will be me. I can't wait to try this out for myself.

If that's too fancy for you, here's an 8-bit Zardoz:

I'll have to check this out. The simulator, not the 8-bit Zardoz. Oh, my eyes.

So Eugene, DeepThought and I all gave Artemis a shot this past weekend and it was a LOAD of fun, if somewhat confusing and not very intuitive. If anyone wants to try an internet game let me know. You don't even have to buy it because the license for the game is for the full six-person bridge crew, so I can legally share it with my crew.

I also ran it on a 4-year-old netbook with no standalone video card and it looked great. It's a very low-impact game.

I'd be interested in trying it out sometime.

So I clearly haven't been able to play this enough, but I have to share this rather cool round of Celebrity Artemis starring Captain Wil Wheaton, John Scalzi, Kevin Murphy (MST3K), and others...

The UK version of PC Gamer ran a fun article a while ago on giving Artemis a try. It's available on their website: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/10/27/all-hands-on-desk-pcg-plays-the-best-star-trek-game-youve-never-heard-of-artemis-spaceship-bridge-simulator/
