I just got permission to share the cover for my first young adult novel, FAIR COIN. More details over on my other blog, image below. The illustration is by one of my favorite artists, Sam Weber.

I do think some Trek fans will appreciate this one when it comes out next March. Since I haven't been able to talk about it much before now, here's the plot synopsis:

While examining his dead double’s belongings, Ephraim discovers a strange coin that makes his wishes come true each time he flips it. Before long, he’s wished his alcoholic mother into a model parent, and the girl he’s liked since second grade suddenly notices him.

As Ephraim learns the coin’s secrets and how to control its power, he must find a way to keep it from Nathan and return to the world he remembers.

I can guarantee that it's better than first season TNG, at least :)

@ Eugene how many words is Fair Coin?

The book is featured today on the Big Idea feature on John Scalzi's blog (whatever.scalzi.com). It's Eugene's words again and probably nothing we haven't seen him say about the book elsewhere, but it's good exposure. Scalzi's blog readership is huge. Congratulations to Eugene.

I'm happy. I got an enjoyable read and a little marker on where the YA market is currently. (I have a YA SF waiting its turn to be written. (A good old fashioned action adventure spanning planets in out solar system with humanity hangin in the balance.)

Thanks! I certainly wasn't trying to keep it a secret, I just don't talk about my other writing much over here. But after Torie's criticism of the last book, I was sure to work some fun Star Trek references into the sequel! The finished book should be out in October. I'm going through the copyedits this week.

I got an ARC from the publisher. I plan on a review closer to publication date. I am looking forward to it.
